Agree as well - don't pull the pump out unless you have to. However, having said that, it is possible a pump with a worn bearing may cause the shaft to move so much it damages the pump shaft (bad) and the jackshaft (very, very bad!). Mine was seeping and when I saw the damage done to one that had also been seeping (although the car had done ~40k miles more than mine) I decided to pull the pump and inspect it.

In my case I was lucky. The shaft and impellor showed no significant wear at all. The bearing was somewhat looser than the replacement one (don't forget the bearing used is a higher clearance than a normal "off the shelf" bearing in that size as it has to run in hot oil. The kit I used was one I collected together myself. The bearing and oil seal are Japanese, the water seal is French (apparently they are very good at water seals!) and I also got a circlip although that wasn't strictly necessary but cost peanuts.

I think the kit available in Europe mentioned is manufactured by the people who made the originals for Saab, but the parts are not identical. Not quite the same high quality finish to the impellor, and the seals etc. are of a slighly different design. Very similar to the ones I used actually.

One thing to note, try and always use the same shaft that came out if you can as it will have mated to a certain extent with the jackshaft. Not always possible though if the shaft is damaged.
