I used a 3 row radiator on one of my 99's. I had it recored and installed a venting hose from the top left to the expansion tank (like the 900)outlet was at bottom left and pump cover was unchanged. I am almost certain that it came from an early 99 (early 70's) mine was a 78. It worked well in the summer in New York city, I guess it gave me a little extra piece of mind in traffic. However, if I had to do it again, I would go with a stock radiator and stock set-up. I would just make sure I have a new thermostat(82 degrees in summer) I would keep 2 fans if the car was a turbo (and newer, lighter fans are great, you are right) The most important thing for me to focus on, I think, would be to redo all the electrical connections at the thermo switch and at the fan relay. (and the fan plugs as well) I have experienced quite a few overheating 99's and it was almost always due to electrical loose connections.
I have done many water pumps too, I would happily live with a pump that weeps a little. Any removal is opening a can of worms, it seems. I try to not mismatch impeller and shaft. I have been forced to, and after some over-heating, I drilled trough both impeller and shaft (very carefully, with a cobalt drill bit) and installed a rolled pin. That was successful, but after a lot of work and several removal/re-install.
I am going to France next week, I will ask around for kits or water seals, and post what I found out.
Hope this is helpful...
