A killing rust?

Recently on my drive home the engine in my 1975 99 made some dismaying sounds coming away from a stoplight. A physical clunk (as opposed to mechanical) when clutch was activated or released, and an occasional noise of a rotational rubbing. Got home and via flashlight found that the alternator was rubbing against the heater box, and that a flange on the alternator was hitting a crossmember on the hood. But why would the motor move like that all of a sudden? Thought maybe I'd broken a motor mount, but they all looked to be in one piece. However, in daylight I discovered that engaging the clutch caused the engine to move up and back in a way that did not look healthy. I had someone else watch the motor mount under the radiator while I did this, and they reported that it was pulling up on the metal it was bolted to. Closer inspection from beneath revealed a lot of rust there, and apparently it is now giving way to the stress. Strangely, it still seems to bear the weight okay - the engine hasn't fallen onto the ground, and doesn't move when I add my weight. Also, shifting is still as easy as it ever was.
So is this the sad end? If it's what it seems to be, does anyone think it feasible or advisable to somehow repair this? Or should I start clearing space for salvaged parts saved for my next 99?
Photo is from 2001, after repaint.
