Hey,
I have had a similiar experience with the guage in my 79 900T. I took my sender out of the tank and cleaned it with tuner cleaner (the acid stuff in a can). This helped some of the intermittency but did not cure it. If I am sitting on a level spot or driving on a smooth, straight road the guage is fine. However as soon as i go around a turn or hit a bump the guage jumps around a bit. Having had my sender apart there is really no stabilization in the sender itself. I have two theories. #1 saab did not properly design baffles into the tank...there is only one in the center. #2 something electronic in the guage itself is messed up. Perhaps when the guages were new they had a stabilization mechanism to resist the sudden changes in resistance from the sender jumping around. I didnt own my car or any other saab from brand new so I have no reference to how the new guages reacted. I think theory #2 is more probable. By almost 1980 surely car manufacturers wouldnt design a guage that would be super sensitive to the gas sloshing around. I am sure others have experienced this same thing and might know the exact answer.
