Faulty Fuel Distributor??? Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
My '76 with CIS would not start a few weeks ago. After replacing the points, cap, and rotor with no success. I checked the plugs and they were extremely fouled. I had less than 1000 miles on these plugs. I replaced the plugs and it started up fine. In the process of troubleshooting the issue I replaced the fuel line from the distributor to #2 injector because I accidentally broke the old one.
The engine starts with no problem when it is cold, but as the engine warms up the engine begins to surge, sometimes it can get quite pronounced. At idle the engine is on the verge of stalling. If I shut the engine off and start it up anytime within the following 3-4 hours the problem is worse. Starting is more difficult, and sometimes I need to place the transmission in neutral so it doesn't stall, but if the car sits for longer the problem seems to "reset" itself. I think it might be the fuel distributor because I can see air bubbles in the fuel line I replaced. I cannot see through the other fuel lines, so I don't know if air is present in those lines. I can see the bubbles right after the engine is shutoff. I know the replaced line is secure at the distributor and on the injector. Any suggestions?
