Waterpump 12 cog to 8 cog conversion

Hello all; I am currently in the process of repairing my beloved 1980 Saab 900 turbo. Since it has the B-Block engine as in all 99's I decided to post in the 99 BB.
Ok here is the situation...I have the dreaded 12 cog waterpump. about 15,000 miles after the second pump rebuild, the ball bearing broke and the shaft chewed up the teeth gear and layshaft.
I now have an 8 cog layshaft, waterpump, impeller and distributor from a 74 99 2 liter engine. I also have the camshaft and carrier from the efi engine (figured while I was there...)
Mu question to all you experts is...how do i actualy make the parts fit into the 12 cog block, the 8 cog waterpump assy. will not fit, the brass sleeve is too large,
I have the parts to rebuild either a 8 cog or 12 cog pump, along with a hydraulic press and the proper tool for installing the pump. Now I am having difficulty putting it all together.
I have sucessfully installed several pump rebuilds (for leaking) and this is the first problem that I have encountered....but it is leaving me scratching my head.
Also, would the 74 2.0 efi camshaft and carrier be a performance upgrade for the turbo engine?
Thank you all in advance for your help!
