Now that the car is running well (except for a 2-3 second dieseling after switching off the car), I decided I would venture out to find a good paint shop for estimates. Well..... 1st recommended shop said we only do high end jobs, a minimum $5-7k job. The second shopped look like Doug Majka's garage and made me feel real comfortable with this location. Unfortunately, he said he wasn't good enough to do the bodywork (boy I like honesty). Here's the joke, which needs a new paragraph.

Maaco quoted me $3,500. You read right, $3,500. Who in their right mind would pay Maaco $3,500 for a paint job. Well someone with a nice 74 Opel GT was in the lot. I was told he paid 3 grand for a three-stage job. I walked up 4 feet away from the door and saw fish eyes, a poor wet/color sand job on the driver door and the shop manager stated "guess we need to take that one back in the shop and repair that spot." Bad thing was, the owner was putting on his tail lights to make the drive home.

I'd buy an airline ticket for DougM, pay him $2k for a week, and buy all the Milwaukees Best and paint before I gave Maaco $3,500.
