I don't have the specs in front of me but you have the pump and there...just measure that and get what fits. There HAVE to be generic sources for a straight piece of rubber that can stand up to being immersed in gas.. As far as taking the pump out is concernted, if you use a blunt rod or something with a hammer or mallet, alternating tabs, you can usually knock it loose. Sometimes it can be a pain, though.
You really need to pick up a factory manual. They are readily available on ebay and quite cheap. It will help out a lot.
As far as a different tank is concerned, if you go with the plastic, which isn't a bad idea, then you will have a number of changes that will have to be made. The fuel lines do not match up the same (vents, returns, etc.) and you will have to move you fuel accumulator as well.
