It's not easy to restore one if you don't have spare parts. Ebay is a decent source, but you never know if the part you need will ever get listed, or if you'll be outbid at the last second on something you desperately needed. East of Sweden in Colorado parts 99's out on occasion, so there's one source. Chip Lamb at West of Sweden in Virginia is a wealth of knowledge, who also sells parts and has connections. I've bought hundreds of dollars in NOS parts at 5 of the last 6 Saab Owners Conventions, but the supplies seem to be dwindling the last few years. Thesaabsite.com still lists many 99 parts, so if you're looking for new stuff, spend the big bucks.
My criteria for restorations was always to get one with a decent body, and a decent interior, but this 78T in my garage needed everything, and it's been a 3+ year search to locate stuff. I think I have almost 95% of what I need, but the remaining 5% might take another decade.:) Interiors can be restitched, and below is a pic of one a guy in WA state did a few years ago. I also know of a guy who paid $2500 to have his red 78T interior redone. It looks fabulous, but way too much money for me.
Sheet metal can be procurred from a junkyard C-900 and a sawzall, but not all panels are exactly the same. The spare tire well and the rearward lower section of the front fenders come to mind, but wheel lips and door bottoms are the same.
Make sure you get one with a good windshield as well.
Blue '74? Must have been carolina blue?
