Over the years, I've found that re-skinning the headliner is the easiest way, assuming that your headliner shell is OK.

The 99 & 900 roof panels are exactly the same. Where you will find differences is in the trim outs for things like the visors, the mirror, the handles and the trailing edge, though that is mostly a difference between a hatch and a sedan. Also, since hte "B" pillars are located farther forward in a 4-door than in a 2- or 3-door, you may have to do some trimming , and may end up with an unplugged hole.

Lastly, the BIG difference is the sunroof vs non-sunroof. besides the big hole, the sunroof tray drops the headliner by close to two inches. Ever notice that the headliner on a car with a sunroof has a "bump" up for the heads of the rear seat passengers? The headliner on a non-SR car is flat, and is practically right up against the steel.

I've re-covered three headliners. By far the most difficult was the 99 headliner, because getting it out of and into the car is a delicate operation when you don't have the huge maw of the hatch available. That's not to say the two 900s were easy. They both had sunroofs, and the headliner tends to want to bend and thus break near the sunroof openings, where it's thin on the sides.
