Is that picture upside down?
Is the lower right quadrant isolated?...if so, 73-74 vintage with D-Jet thermo housing, which has a thermoswitch, two temp sensors, and a port for the auxilliary air regulator. (I don't think that thermo housing will do you any good)
One thing to note, the 73-74 thermo housing is all open, which means it does not isolate that lower right quadrant, nor is it divided down the middle.
I checked a 78T head and housing, and both are divided in half(top half and bottom half), the lower half has no coolant sensors.
I'd say bolt it up with only sealant on the outside rim and see if it runs cool.
