If the engine hasn't turned in a long time, pour a little Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder and let it sit overnight. If it's a manual, you can jack a front wheel, put the car in 4th, and carefully turn the tire to turn the motor over. This will make everything turn from differential, through the transmission, and into the motor.
If it turns nicely by hand, then I would turn with the starter with the coil wire grounded as suggested.
On the fuel side, you can jump the fuel pump relay to power the fuel pump and check for leaks. To test flowing fuel, be careful. Pull the injectors and point them into a suitable container. With the fuel pump jumped and running, lift the air flow plate and fuel should flow.
If this sounds like too much and you are confident, just hook it all up and go for it!
