As I have mentioned before, my '79 99 GL sat for 20 years, and now that I have it running(yay!), I am noticing that it is starting to run hot after several minutes. When I first picked up the car, I noticed that the expansion tank just had water in it(boo), so I am guessing that both the radiator and heater core are clogged up from rust. I also notice that after I turn it off (as the temp gauge is approaching the red) the radiator is still COLD to the touch, so I think no coolant is running through it at all. Also the hose from the radiator, and the hose from the heater core is also COLD to the touch. So again, I think that both parts are clogged up.
Assuming I cannot flush these parts good enough to get a good flow, what is the best, least costly solution to replacing or fixing these parts? Are there any DIY ways to repair these parts? Or am I forced to buying new parts? Or is it better to take them somewhere(i don't know where that would be) to have them fixed? Is the correct term, "re-cored" or something?
Are there any new, non-Saab units that will fit that any of you have found out or rigged up?
Thanks once again for the help & sorry for the long post.
You people are the very best!
