I have been driving my 99T daily for about 2 years since I got it, and it has only let me down once so far, when the fuel pump relay went out about a mile from work. It has taken about 2 years to get it reliable, and I had to replace fuel injection components, starter, alternator, CV joints, etc., in the 2 years because it had been inactive for some time. I travel 25 miles a day, all city stop and go, so I have to keep up with maintenance frequently. I've got 176k on the engine, and it is still good. But, as with any old car, it will nickel and dime you constantly, parts wearing out and getting old. It takes time and patience to drive "junk" cars, but if you've got a good 99, it should be up to the task.
Hell, if that guy with the Volvo P1800 can get 2 million miles out of his car, we 99 owners should be able to get a few extra miles out of ours.
