You might want to check that you didn't bonk the water control valve when you were sliding the drivetrain back in, and that all the hoses from the block to the heater are hooked up correctly. The hookup varies a bit from year to year, and I don't know exactly how it goes on a '73.
Oh, yeah, you did bleed the heater core when you refilled the cooling system, didn't you? If not, try that before you do anything else. If air gets trapped in the heater core, then hot water can't get in and your heater won't heat. There's a bleeder valve on the heater box -- you want to turn the heat control to full hot, open this valve, and let the engine warm up until a steady stream of coolant (no bubbles) trickles out the valve. Then top up coolant as necessary and if you're lucky, your problem will be solved.
Blown exhaust flanges will make noise and can damage surrounding stuff on the engine from the extra heat, but they shouldn't cause a noticeable loss of power or affect the heater. If you can't find official ones, you can make your own out of copper sheet, using one of the old ones as a pattern.
