Saabers:
I desire my 78 99gle to be much faster. I painted the old girl a pristine shiny black, mounted freshly done Inca wheels, installed a front and rear spoiler. The black five door looks like it is ready to bring home the trophy. Now ..is it a 16valve or a B turbo that should be installed. A number of years back, I atempted to install a 16valve on a 7899. As the project was not completed, yet I can state that is was a pain in the backside. I had cut the firewall lower crossmember and front mount in attempt to install a 16valveT laced with the 5speed tranny. The clearance was a less than an inch to the hood. About the same at the crossmember. I also ran the wiring and computer. Unfortunately, when I did drive the car, there was a awful knocking at the axle. I even jack up the car and rotated the roadwheel by hand as a peered inot he engine bay. When I turned the wheel, the whole engine would shift. This was th eknocking that I experienced. The error I made back then was trying to use the 900 motor mounts all around. I adjusted the mounts by drilling holes at the pedestals, but it never worked correctly. I became fed up, and eventually scrapped the car. I do not wish to make the same mistakle twice. so I am contemplating the B turbo. Has anyone installed the 16valve in the 99 without problems? The 5 speed as well? My GLE has power steering, so not sure if this will hamper the installation. Bottom line..I'm undecided weather to attempt again or search for a rare B turbo Is th ebottom end the same in a b engine for I was thinking of installing a Turbo head and manifold plus turbo. Are the computers the same? Electrical? Any help would be valued
