Clutch problems!

Proof of Murphy's Law: If it can go wrong at the most frustrating time it will! I had just removed the engine from my V-4 in search of what I tho0ught was a bad con rod, which turned out to be a broken valve spring that sounded just like a rod, (the valve bouncing off the camshaft). Then after I got it running "just like a song", the radiator started leaking.
I had a good radiator that I put on and when I started the car up to go for a spin, the clutch pedal bottomed out with no resistance. I had had no previous trouble with the clutch. I put kits in both the clutch master cyl. and the slave cylinder. In the process I noticed that the coil spring that returns the clutch pedal had broken off at the end and was no longer putting tension on the clutch pedal to return it. However after I bled the
system, the pressure in the hydralic line seemed to return the clutch pedal back far enought that the clutch should take hold, but reverse ground
like crazy! and i could engage it. I adjusted the manual adjustment on the right side of the bell housing all the way out and in with no change.
I am beginning to wonder if something in the clutch assy, suddenly broke?
When I had the engine out, I checked the clutch plate: O.K. and put a used
pressure plate that had a lot more strength than the one that was in there.
I just wanted to check with this esteemed forum before I took the engine out and tore it apart agin? Thankx! (for reading this far).
