The best way to do it is to remove the three bolts holding the carrier, and pull the carrier plus cv joints. The whole process is pretty well described in the Haynes manual. It might seem like a lot of unnecessary work, but it's an ideal time to get a look at the cv joints and tranny drivers all at once. Jobs like this make the Haynes manual worth its weight in gold.
