Bob: Just a seat of the pants reply: I have a '70 Model 96 w/V-4 engine,
That as far as I know is still running on the original coil and resistor/capacitor (?). When first getting this baby to run I hot wired the necessaries to get it to run, (hot wire to coil +, hot wire through a
switch to the starter), and it ran fine without the capacitor. I think one of my manuals tells how to check the capacitor, but I haven't gotten around
to checking it, it is so old and rusty, that I suspect it is not working.
Recently I had a problem where the engine would run fine at idle and when first started up, but would die after warm when applying acceleration to the pedal. I though this was fuel starvation because I had just rebuilt the fomoco carb., but saw a post in the archives of this forum, that it could also mean a bad coil which would run until warm then start starving for current. I hope this helps, You can have my 20 years of junkyard dog
experieence, but I need all the theoretical help< (especially in the sparks department), that i can get! Good Luck!
