Mark,
If you've never driven a vSaab be prepared for a new addiction. Way too much fun with lots of Swedish attitude. I was never much of a mechanic as well but these old cars have taught me a lot. Parts are relatively easy to find. There are lots of wrecks out there to salvage from and most motor and drive train parts are still available new. They are lots of fun to drive and the 95 (wagon model #) is an especially groovy car to own. I'm highly biased as I've owned 15 or 16 in the past 20 years and drive them all the time. They are especially great in the winter as the snow traction is unbeatable and the heater is BIG.
Watch out for cars with a lot of body rot as they can become more work then their worth. Good solid 95's with pretty clean chassis and strong running motors can be had for $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 depending on where you are.
My advice, buy it and enjoy. There's plenty of help out there to aid you through the learning curve and empower your new co-dependent vSaab addiction.
Jonathan
