Geoff: I did a search on this board useing the term "voltage regulator" and
came up with this check:" The easiest thing to check first is the regulator / alternator combination. If you're getting 13 to 14 volts at the battery while the engine is running, chances are the regulator and alternator are both working correctly. If you don't see a voltage in that range, you need to find out if it's the regulator or the alternator. There is a simple procedure in the manual for determining which of the two the problem is... " The quote from the manual is: "Pull the plug from the rear of the alternator and bridge the tags: "DF" and "D+". Start the engine and run it upto but not beyond 2000 rpm. If the ignition warning light goes out immediately the voltage regulator is bad. If the warning light stays on or flashes on and off intermitantly then the alternator is bad" Hope this helps. Bye the way I hate to take credit for "kansas" who is way smarter than I am and who lives in Oregon, I think, I still reside in the Sunflower State.
