Konrad..apparently my model does not come with a coil spring(maybe an upgrade for a later 96?)
I took the locking mechanism mounted on the front panel apart, and cleaned all of the accumulated crud off. I use degreaser and steel wool until the metels glistened. I then saturated the parts in moly grease, and assembled everything together and mounted it. Alright! I rip the new package of the "Help" brand hood cable. It costed 7 dollars. After measuring and cutting with a Dremel tool. I closed the hood..went into the cabin and pulled the hood cable. The metal knob broke right off!!
Konrad...maybe yours was a deluxe hood latch for the knob does not screw on. Anyway..now using a vice grip,,,I eventually got the hood to open smoothly. One factor that is important is the hood pin. I had to adjust this numerous times to get just the right position so the hood could open smoothly.
I will keep lookig for a quality hood cable
