V4 Engine spec questions

I bought a '67 V4 longnose in September and have been learning as I go. The VIN says it is definitely a '67 car. As I learn more, I am suspecting that the original engine was replaced at some time, but possibly it was only several components. In any event, now I am unsure of the specs of the actual engine in my car.
I know the '67 came with a 1.5l engine. I've seen references to open deck and closed deck engine types. I've seen references to red, blue, black, and silver engines. I've seen Solex carbs and Ford carbs.
My engine block number is 63450, the engine block looks black (not from dirt or grease), the carb is a Ford, the throttle assembly look like it was designed for a clockwise throttle movement while the carb seems set for a counter clockwise throttle movement (both from idle). These and other clues make me think I might have a later engine than a '67 1.5l. How can I tell if it is a 1.5 or 1.7? Any idea on how to tell the year?
Can anyone tell me or point me to where or how I can find out what I have.
