A good heavy duty wax John. I like meguiars gold class. Others like Zaino, mothers..etc
The detailing board has tons of knowledge on polishes/wax..etc
For rustproofing, inspect the floor and correct any rust issues. Clean and lubricate the chasis with a heavy duty oil. Your manual should give points to oil such as the doors, sills, etc
AS for the car cover, I dont know of any custom sources for the 96 as it is an old car. What I cove mine with is evolution four in a small size.
It is one of the best on the market for the price. purchased at autozone Mine is a thick tan color and it is breathable, but not waterproof if it rains really hard for a long time. In my opinion, and many others, a waterproof cover9they do exist) traps moisture and is not good for the paint.
