Interesting, but all they're doing is replacing the compressor's belt drive with an electric motor. I can see how that would be necessary for an electric vehicle, but I don't see any advantage for a gasoline-powered vehicle, where you can easily drive the compressor via a belt just by adding a pulley (and where you'd need to uprate the alternator to handle the extra load.)
In addition to powering the compressor, you'd still need to add a condenser, evaporator, receiver/dryer, and all the other bits of plumbing in a conventional A/C installation.
All these bits would be salvageable from an old SAAB with importer-installed A/C, but the real issue with adding A/C now is that the parts would all be old and probably leaky, cruddy, etc.
What I wonder is if anyone has researched whether it would be possible to air-condition a vintage SAAB with parts from an aftermarket supplier such as Kool Air, which supplies A/C kits to the hotrodding market. I've seen some of their installations in '50s pickup trucks -- very slick.
Anybody looked into this...?
