wet clutch Posted by patquin [Email] (#9) [Profile/Gallery] (more from patquin) on Sat, 10 Sep 2005 19:35:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Up at SOC 05 it seems my clutch started getting oiled from a leaky seal. For one day, I thought I'd blown the clutch on the way up. I got some great advice to spray brake cleaner in the inspection plate hole with the clutch depressed, and that fixed it perfectly. At home, after degreasing it throughly, I can see that the oil is coming down aft of the flywheel. and dripping off the bottom of the bell housing. This is a V4 with the older flat-sided 4-speed transmission.
Can I be sure that the oil is from the transmission, and not the engine? If the transmission seal is leaking, what is the typical cause? Is this common?
I'm putting together the parts to do an engine/transmission removal, new clutch etc. What should I look for to be certain I've repaired the leak?
Thanks for any guidance.
