As a follow up to my initial post, if anyone is interested, here is one article by a chemical coatings company regarding the coating of an intake manifold with high tech materials to enhance performance:

Regarding the British-made ITG Megaflow racing air filters, they are available in the U.S. and are purportedly better than K&N. They come with pre-cut adaptors that fit several types of carbs including single-barrel Webers which is what I now have on my 96. I'm not sure which one to use as I'm not certain how much clearance there is under the hood after the stock air filter housing is removed.

If anyone has tried either of these strategies for bumping up horsepower or has any comments on them, I'd be interested in knowing. I intend to try several things on my Saab but knowing that a lot of expense is involved, I'd prefer to start with some knowledge based on the learned experiences of others, if possible.
