V4 broken dipstick

The dipstick in my V4 Saab 96 broke. The metal just below the handle and the little bell-like cap had been gradually wearing out and moving back and forth, probably from metal fatigue. Yesterday I noticed it was no longer there (probably fell off from vibrations of the engine while driving). The portion of the dipstick still in the tube can be removed with a pair of narrow long-nose pliers and I'm keeping it in the tube, although I've noticed a very small oil leak on the driveway for the last few days, so small amounts of oil must be getting out.
Does anyone know what kind of Ford dipstick will work in a totally stock V4 engine's dipstick tube? Is it a 1986 Ford Taurus dipstick? If so, does a lower portion of the dipstick have to be cut and, if so, how much? Now that I no longer have the little bell or cap on my original Saab dipstick (that section broke off), I'm not sure how far into the tube the dipstick is supposed to extend beyond the dipstick cap. Or does it look like I will have to find an original V4 dipstick now?
