Fuel Starvation in my 69 '95

I'm having a fuel issue. Flow seems fine (gushing all over the place when I pull the rubber line off of the metal line with car parked nose down on a hill), the pump works ok (squirts fuel all over the place when cranking) when cold, though some bubbles are visible in the fuel filter even with the car idling and revving, as if there is a line leak somewhere.
I replaced the fuel pump with a spare and it acts exactly the same.
When it gets good and warm, like after 1 hr of city driving, it gets worse and the motor cuts out in increased load conditions - up hills, brisk accellerations, etc., and can be easily restarted on the flat but not nose up on a hill.
Crud in the tank that loosens and shifts up hills? Weber 34CH unhappy? Time to buy a Buick????
No sign of leaking fuel from the metal line - I'd smell it, it would drip, etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks -
Duncan
