Don,
One other thing to think about- DON'T install the alternator such that the belt is REALLY tight. It should have a bit (maybe 1/2") of slack in the center when you press on the belt.
Reason: a really tight belt puts alot of pressure on the balance shaft bearings, which are a known long-term failure item in the V-4's. You can check yours by grabbing the balance shaft pulley and seeing if you get side-to-side play. If you have significant play, then the bearings are getting worn which means that one of these days, you'll strip the teeth and come to a stop!

PS- my '68 Deluxe was recently having a problem with high (about 17VDC) voltage. After changing the regulator a couple of times with the same result, I finally changed the alternator. Problem went away.
