You are correct with the main sources for transmission rebuilds. A 4th would be Bud Clark out at J&B Imports in California. I posted a couple of weeks ago about my very positive experience with Jack Lawrence of Motor Sport Service. He did a complete rebuild of my Sonett transmission- all new bearings, shot-peen the ring and pinion, set up tighter than factory, better shaft locking devices, etc. Door-to-door was about a week. Cost was $1200.
John- if you provide a better description of the noise, we could better troubleshoot it...
