Worse for sure. Think of it this way:
It takes X horsepower (loosely speaking) to accomplish a certain thing, for example, accelerate from 30 to 60 in 5sec, or maintain steady cruise at 60mph. The stock engine is designed for a compromise of power, acceleration, emissions, and other stuff to accomplish this in a way to attract the most customers to buy the car. That Xhp is required whether you have a weak or a powerful engine, to do that exact task. The stock engine would do that.
Now you want to develop a more powerful engine. Quite a bit more.
A) If you would drive it exactly the same as the original, you would require exactly the same HP to do the same thing, except that your modifications will make the engine less efficient in use of fuel, ie compromise economy in favor of performance. So you lose economy even if you drive the same.
B) But you aren't going to drive the same, you are going to accelerate faster, drive faster, brake more, right? Or else why would you do the mods? So you will demand more performance than the stock setup would give, and that will cost you a lot in economy.
There are modifications that will enhance economy, but not the ones you plan. There ain't no free lunch.
Emissions will suffer too, if you care.
