I have a few 900's, and a 99, but it's my '72 96 V4 that I really LOVE to take on trips, especially after fixing my seat so that it is now more supportive and comfortable than the old worn seat that came with the car when I bought it. I think the highway is where the 96 really shines. My V4 smooths out and gets real quiet from 4100 to 4600 RPM. The previous owner replaced my left dash gauge with a tachometer from a Saab Sonett, and then added additional gauges for temperature, oil pressure, then I added a working fuel level gauge, and am in the process of adding the voltage gauge. I like being able to see the RPMs when I'm winding my engine out. Anyway... it is so tight on the highway, and with that V4 wound out, it is simply a total and complete BLAST! It's like I'm racing the entire time. At 4500 RPM my 96 is going close to 80, which I have done for long periods of time - NO PROBLEM (like close to Atlanta, GA, where everyone is going at least 80). However, since a speed limit is posted, I have to show some restraint. In my V4, with a new radiator, electric fan, Weber 34ICH carb, and 165R15 tires, I get about 37 MPG going 75 MPH all day long :-) Smiling the entire time!
