Hi Randy,
Clutch slave cyl. is one of the easiest jobs on a 96.
As to whether to rebuild or replace you have to take it apart & look for corrosion/pitting in the bore. One bolt in the rear & the line & it is off car. A snap ring holds the piston from coming out. It may be corroded in front of the piston where it has never gone, requiring some clean up before the piston will come out. Try banging it on a wood block. There is only one seal, note it has a wider side that the fluid pushes against & expands it to the bore pushing the piston forward.
If the pitting is not too bad you might try a light polish with very fine sandpaper (400-2000) cut a small strip about 1/2 inch wide & put it in a wooden dowel (cut a slot in one end. Run it at low speed. They are very forgiving, but 40 + year old parts....
Then use any brake fluid, Have someone pump the clutch pedal & then hold it down to the floor, open the bleeder and close again, pump, bleed Until pedal feel returns and no air is seen coming out with the fluid.
THEN CLEAN up all spilled brake fluid as it eats paint & promotes rust.
Master cyl. is the same Except two bolts & pedal link, & line. It does have a thin wavey washer that goes in front of the seal. & may take some real pedal pumping to get going.
If this fails just replace with new. You'll just be out $20-$30.00 but will have learned something, and will change your fluid every year from now on.<g>
