The speedo cable can be a problem, and they're a little hard to come by these days. Jack Ashcraft has refurbised ones, but it depends on the year. I've fixed them with a simple hose clamp at the back of the speedo.
As to the dimmer pot- same deal. I tend to simply bypass them and run the lights at full bright. They're a resistance potentiometer that uses a special wire that will have flaky spots or break. Full bright is no resistance, so bypassing does no harm. Full bright is not all that bright and doesn't seem to bother me. Just recently I was thinking that there must be a modern replacement, but I haven't done the research to find one.
