I'm helping my son with his first engine rebuild, a Sonett III. He's mostly in the camp of meaningful upgrades to horsepower, but short of full race prep. Driveability is important, probably as important as getting output to 100-125hp.
Besides the engine, gearing could also be an important consideration. Easy cruising at modern speeds. At 68hp you have to turn the engine fast, but at 100hp you could relax with a more comfortable gear ratio.
