I am looking at the lubrication system schematic in the factory 99 Manual page 200-3. It appears that the oil pressure passage feeds both ends of the idler shaft at bearing surfaces. The engine cross section at water pump [ page 200-2 ] shows a 'chamber' at the bottom of the water pump shaft that would be fed oil from the run out at the adjacent bearing I think, probably keeping the chamber relatively full of oil, not under pressure at the bottom of the pump shaft. From there the oil must fall back down to the sump.
