This is not considered a good idea as the automatics are not particularly strong gearboxes. Later C900's had a low pressure turbo in the automatics, but if they are converted to a high output turbo, the tranny will not take the added power. As far as the 4-speed manuals go, I have one from a '78 99 that has about 340,000 miles on it in two cars with no rebuild. (It came out of the first car at 286,000 miles.) It's all in how well you care for them. As for the 5-speed manuals, the ones built after 1989 are beefier than the '80 to '88 versions.
