"96" V-4 water pump

The water pump on my 1972 "96" V-4 self destructs (noisy, leaking, pulley wobbling) in what seems to be a very short amount of miles. I have used distilled water, plus antifreeze and am very careful of not over tightening the belt. There is no pulley mis-alignment. The car is not used that much, only a few miles per week. I don't recall whether the last water pump was an aftermarket unit or one from Saab. Since changing the water pump on this car is low on the "fun" scale, if someone has had experience with the water pumps on these cars, I would welcome any recommendations / thoughts / comments ? Thanks.
