Wanting to rehab your 96 isn't crazy -- it's just the opposite!
Check the parts classified and links ritchere on TSN and you'll find several good resources. You already know about Jack Ashcraft (note that he says he's moving to a smaller place and will be downsizing his parts operation, so you might want to get in touch with him soon.) Chip Lamb at West of Sweden Saab is a friendly guy, a mine of information, and a good source for hard-to-find parts. If you don't mind the extra hassle of doing business internationally, Swedish Saab Registry (aka Svenska Saabregistret) and Highgate Saabpart in the UK are places that can provide you with a lot of stuff. 96es were sold in Europe until 1980, so parts that are scarce here are sometimes much easier to find there.
If you want to make your car go fast, don't forget these two completely different performance-parts places that share the initials "MSS": Motor Sport Services (Jamestown, NY, Jack Lawrence, prop.; doesn't have a website) and Motorsport Sweden (in Sweden, natch; Mats Johanssen (sp?) prop.; has a website at http://www.motorsportsweden.com, but it depends on BOTH frames and Javascript and is VERY cranky as a result!)
Geez... knowledge, time, technical ability, money, and a 96 to lavish it all on... do some people have a great life, or what?
