Avoid the piston type of compressor

I had a York/Tecumseh on my 74 260Z, whenever it came on it felt like an engine brake. I switched to a rotary type compressor and it was much smoother and took less power. The piston compressor caused so much vibration that it kept breaking the mounting bracket.
The 260Z had about 160 HP. AC is really going to bog down that little V4. The other consideration is the cooling system and charging system. Most cars with AC have larger radiators. My TR7 has AC; Triumph added 2 10" electric fans in front of the radiator and condenser that come on with the AC. The TR7 with AC also has a larger alternator than the non-AC model.
You might want to look for a Kysor dealer, they make aftermarket AC units for trucks and may be able to put together what you need for the installation. If you think it is really worth the trouble.
