Wider is better, anything is better then the 4 in patches on the road. I autocross my 96 and my friend raced his, my car which has the standered 4 in wheels, is not as effective as it could be in speed because of the 4 in patches of rubber on the ground don't prived enough grip so you spining you wheels all the time. Which you probly already know or we wouldn't be having this disscusion. See my friend when he set up his race car, to compsate for the wheel spin he put wider wheels on the car, you can fit any size wheels in the front, but in the rear the fender will stop you from puting anything wider then the stock 4 in wheels. So if you go wider, your going to have to flare the rear fenders.
