Yes, elec ignition would be a good thing... eventually i'm going to switch over to that, because my distributor isn't even the right advance curve (for a '75 fuel inject. instead of dual carb)... but bushings are a hard one to find... they're not even available from bosch themselves anymore... however they turn out to be the exact same as a VW bug... so they're alot easier to find. I don't remember the part number from the little kit I got, but we called up the loval VW dealer and asked for the distributor bushing kit. What we got was two bushings and a roll pin in a small plastic baggy. Only trick is you have to take the distributor apart, but that means you can clean it and oil it, etc... so it's a wonderful fix. That does cause significant problems with spark/mixture settings. causes the engine to backfire through intake manifold too... if you've experienced that. good luck, if you need more info I can try figure it out.
