I'd run a wire to a relay from the back-up light switch, then run a fused power lead to the rear for the new light. On one of my 99s, I ran a six-wire cable to the rear from under the dash. That way, anything that I wanted to power in the rear, the cable was already there. I was an EMT in Connecticut and I had a set of lights mounted on my rear deck wired to an alternating flasher. The power went through that harness to the flasher unit in the trunk. I never got the rear fog light or backup light installed.
