That question doess not have a black/white answer.
The thing is, those two bodystyles each have their vices. Since "everyone" else here has listed the upshots of 2-doors, I'll advocate for the hatchback.
-It's faster. Not from nought-to-houndred, but top speed. It has to do with simple laws of aerodynamics.
-It's faster. (!) Around high-speed turns. Weight balance is more neutral :-)
-We all know about the practicallity of an opening hatch, and the claimed less torsional rigidity. As long as we speak about 99's with newly overhauled chassis components. Preferrably tweaked too.
In real life, all 2-doors I've ever driven were sloppy, bouncy, and much less manageble than my well sorted 5-door. They definately did not FEEL more rigid.
