The saab (actully Borg Warner) autobox is a three speed. That means high revs, lots of noise, terrible mpg, no noticeable accell, slow all over. On the other hand, if well maintained they seem to last longer than the manuals, which you can expect to go out in about 200k miles. But the manuals give you all the fun of driving. And that is tremendous in a 900. I like the 99 as well, as far as heating is concerned I rate it higher than the 900. 99 and 900 is basically the same car, lots of interchangeable parts. So, on the whole I agree with Sven in recommending the 900 for daily use. You can get a younger one too. 1990+ has a stronger gearbox. 16v has more power than 8v, there are some pros and cons to each re maintenance and reliability. You might want to check this on the 900 board. Use the search feature, you'll find the 900 board is the best thing ever on the internet.
Hope you luck out with finding a good one, bye.
