The only advantage to the axle itself is that it gives you slightly wider rear track that will allow wider tires without rubbing. The rear arms that carry the springs and shocks allow you to use 900 shocks - much greater selection of brands/types. But you still have to find good 99 fronts.
I think you could change the rear arms without changing the axle, but I have not tried it. I am not sure whether the 900 rear arms are different on their inner edges where the sway bar rides. If the bar will fit along the 99 arms you will probably only need the longer bolts where the bar mounts, but again I have not tried the bar with the bolts from a 99. Let us know what you finally do. If you have more ? e-mail me I have several of all the parts and pieces lying around and I plan to try the 900 sway bars on my '76 EMS.
