If you try to re-jump the car to inspect for damage, you need to have the alternater connected or it will not start at all. If it is shorted out, it may not start at all, so don't worry if that is the case. I found that out by trying to start mine without the alternater hooked up. It is a pricey charging system, so If I run out of spares, I will eventually go with a standard GM delco conversion. I've already measured the brackets, and it can work very easily. ANY shop or guy you know who fools around with American classic cars can do this for you very cheaply and easily. Then you can get your charging sysem parts low-priced and anywhere. Best of luck.
