It seems to me, although I could be missing the point completely, there are all sorts of reasons. Torque and all that weight in the front certianly would be some reasons. But you have to remeber that the Swedes designed cars to run reliably on snow and unpaved roads. Bigger springs in the front would allow greater compensation on rough roads and keeping the drive wheels on the road. The rear, with trailing arms and a solid axel, does not need the same spring load. There's not near as much weight and it's one big piece. I don't recall my 99T having that usual look. Maybe you can find the specs for the turbo springs and compare. They may be shorter. If you ever drive it in deep snow, you'll be thankful its tall. Try driving a BMW through a snow drift.
