As from model 1972 the door lock works in such a way that you rotate an arm with the key moving the arm inline with the door latch release arm. When you press the door button in, the latch will open. What has happened in your case is that the screw holding the arm inside the door has worked loose and initially allowing the cylinder to rotate freely and later the fall out. If you were lucky to get the lock cylinder and spring in you hand and not losing them somewhere along the road the repair is easy. Remove the interior door trim, with the door window closed, find the locking arm, lockwasher and screw that are laying in the bottom of the door. Insert from the outside the lock cylinder, sleeve and spring and screw in the locking arm on the inside. Check that the arm is positioned correctly so that it will push the latch's release arm when the key is turned to the unlock position. If not loosen the screw and rotate the arm to the correct position. Replace the interior door trim and happy SAABing.
